Description:

Description for B&B:

The king of France, known as Saint Louis, began to reclaim Aquitaine, a region of his kingdom that had been under English rule for centuries. In 1638, the Lord of Mouillepied, a seneschal, had to pay homage to the Count of Taillebourg. In the 18th century, Château Mouillepied was expanded by Guillaume Clairins des Lauriers, the chief engineer of the Rochefort Arsenal and a knight of Saint Michel. It transformed into a beautiful classical house with terraced gardens, ponds, and aesthetically pleasing stone walls.

The name "Mouillepied" comes from the abundance of springs on the property. It is located two kilometers away from the historic and picturesque village of Taillebourg. The famous Battle of Taillebourg occurred in 1242 and was immortalized by Delacroix in 1837. Saint Louis also initiated the reconquest of Aquitaine during this time.

Château Mouillepied is a residence that offers guest house bed and breakfast accommodations. English is spoken and self-catering options are available. The owners welcome guests to the château, which was built in the 15th and 18th centuries and restored with its original character in mind. It provides modern comfort in the countryside of Romani Saintonge, situated 30 km from Cognac and the Atlantic beaches of Royan and Île d'Oléron.

The château is located 7 km from Saintes on the left bank of the Charente River, near exit 35 of the A10 motorway from Paris to Bordeaux (110 km) and the A837 from La Rochelle Airport (65 km). The spacious and comfortable bedrooms overlook the park and come equipped with ensuite bathrooms or shower rooms, toilets, and a range of amenities.

On the ground floor of the château, guests can relax in the public lounges around the fireplace. The orangerie provides a view of the peaceful and wooded landscape of the Charente. Guests can choose from a wide selection of teas and herbal teas, enjoy a cup of coffee, or help themselves to complimentary soft drinks in the evening. The château also offers plenty of information about local tourism activities such as fishing, rentals, walking trails, and vineyard visits. In the park, there are two self-catering options with central heating. Several restaurants can also be found nearby.
